Favorite Reed?

Personally, I like the Rico Reserve strength 2.5-3. I think it get's a really dark sound for a softer reed. Wht about you guys?

I love Vandoren traditional reeds size 3 for alto sax. They have such a clear, rich sound throughout the registers.

I like Rico Royal reeds!!! 2 1/2 and 3 specially for baritone sax.

I've become a total convert to the cane coming out of South America these days. I started by trying Zonda clarinet reeds on the advice of Dr. Lawrence Gibbs and his mentor, Tom Riddenour. I still play Zonda on clarinet, but am now playing Gonzalez reeds on my saxophones. I like the fact that they come in quarter strengths.

Years ago I played Olivieri reeds on alto which are sadly no longer made. The Gonzalez performs more like them than any other reed I've tried.

Vandoren have been and are the only reeds I can use, actually. Rico breaks after 1 hour...

One warning about Gonzalez reeds. The heart cut "vamp" is very beefy, so you'll want to back up about 1/2 strength when trying them out.

I use Hahn reeds. The best synthetic reed I ever tried.

I'm currently trying the Forestone reeds on Bari @ the request of a friend who's considering distributing them. So far so good. I'll post more later. In the meantime, check out their website.

I currently use vandoren reeds on all my saxes. But, I received a box of rigotti reeds for tenor they play and respon very well. They also bring ten in a box very good when tenor reeds are giving you difficulties breaking in. Take care guys.

I´m using Vandoren V16 2.5 (the best for me nowdays). I will try a Hahn synthetic in the meantime.

I've always found VanDoren to be the least annoying...:-) For classical I use #3 blue box, and for jazz #3 ZZ. I've also used Hemke for classical, but have to go to a #3 1/2 or #4... Now for this Bari gig I have coming up, I've found nothing I like, only what I can tolerate... 3 1/2 ZZ is too hard, 3 1/2 and 4 Rico Royal are too soft. Don't want to spend more on reeds than I'm making on the gig! :-)

The Forestone reeds are my current choice on Alto (Expression and Lawton Mouthpiece) and Tenor (Expression and Zinner Ed Sperber Mouthpiece).

I'm am currently using La Voz medium hard on alto sax and i use vandoren #3 traditional on tenor sax.I tried Gonzales reeds on tenor 2 1/2 and they sound really good also.

My friend Catalina loves La Voz Soft and Rico Royal #1 and #1.5 reeds. Other friend, Xcaret, likes Vandoren and Gonzalez No. 4 and No.5 reeds, as well as La Voz hard reeds.

I am currently using Forestone reeds on alto and Tenor sax. I really like the warm sound they give me.

i'm use Rico La Voz... Not really bright like vandoren red java, but i love the warm sound from La Voz

I'm currently using Vandoren Trad 2 or 2 half and Java RED-CUT 2 half on alto,Tenor and Soprano.
I like rich and crisp sound their have.

I really like Vandoreen 3 Java the traditional Vandoren I find them very stiff. Ricos do not like them nor La. Voz

I use the following reeds:

Tenor Sax: ZZ Vandoren # 3

Alto Sax: Vandoren Java red No. 3

Soprano saxophone: Rico jazz select No. 3 m

Baritone Sax: Forestone M

I think this configiração is excellent for evenness of the sounds of all instruments. I found the balance that I sought.

I've been using LaVoz forever, so I guess they've been my favorites. Usually use Med/Soft on tenor, alto, & soprano (which I use clarinet reeds on), and when playing outdoors in hot &/or humid weather, I use a Rico Plasticover 2 on tenor, & maybe on the others to be on the safe side (wilted, flaccid reeds make little music)...

Would love to find the perfect synthetic reed when there is one....
