I listen to so many players it's really hard to decide. Off the top of my head and in no particular order:
1. Michael Brecker
2. John Coltrane
3. Wayne Shorter
4. Joe Henderson
5. Johnny Griffin
But as far as alto players go, it would probably be something like this:
1. Bird
2. Eric Marienthal
3. Dick Oatts
4. Cannonball Adderly
5. Kenny Garrett
Furthermore, some of my favorite classical players are:
1. Claude Delangle
2. Vincent David
3. John Moore
4. Pat Meighan
5. Michael Ibrahim
Again, there are so many greats. I hate to narrow it to just five. I could list over 100 musicians who have inspired me. But maybe threasd like this can help open our eyes to music we may not have heard yet. So, in that respect I hope my lists are of some help.
My "Classical Saxophone" Influences include:
Dr. Steven Mauk, Mr. Gary Louie, Mr. Joesph Lulloff, Dr. James Kalyn, Dr. Gail Levinsky, and Mr. Sam Skelton
