HI, guys hope all is well. I'm posting this because I have gotten a few questions from a few friends and students online about my sax neck on my keilwerth tenor. I'm using a modern Oleg sax neck that was originally in brass then I had it silver plated. But, first I had my sax tech over here in Puerto Rico remove the bottom brace and add a side brass brace on each side of the neck for support. Just like Kirk Whalum's but with thicker brass. This really opened up the sound in almost the entire range of the horn. Keilwerth tenors are very big sounding and have great intonation, the lower register just pops out nice and even. But, now with this neck the mid to upper register just blows easier and there is much less resistance throughout the entire horn. I have tried a few necks from the many yamaha models on my tenor YTS-61, the ponzol necks, the cannonball, the saxgourmet models and a couple others. I know the Gloger Handkraft and Stephen Bosken necks are great also but pricey due to custom orders. I will post some audio clips later on during the week. Well, best wishes guys and feel free to add to the post with your comments or questions.
