  There is a great computer program, for PC and MAC, called "TRANSCRIBE!."  It can be found onine and can be downloaded.  There is a free trial period with it, If you try it and like it you can pay for it and they send you the registration numbers.  The program takes recordings and slows them down to as much as 5% of the original tempo without changing the pitches.  It makes it easier to hear all of the notes as they fly by.

  Good sax talkers . I have a question. When transcribing a solo , what is the most effective way of doing this? Write the phrases and licks down first. Find the chords first and then extract notes ? Have you ever transcribed a solo? Comments please !!

  There are many way to go about transcribing. I like to use something like "TRANSCRIBE" to slow it down s I can hear all of the notes. I usually figure out a phrase at a time and write it down and then get it down and then add the next phrase or section and continue like this until I finish the solo.

  I do the same as Chris, it works well for me. Transcribe is a great program.
  
  I try to write one phrase at a time. Make sure to pay close attention to each interval within a phrase. It is very easy to confuse some notes on a fast phrase & we may have a tendency to follow the scale that we know instead of what was actually played.
  
  Example:
  
  The song is in C Major. If the artist played these notes (E, Eb, D, B, A, G) you may have a natural tendency to hear it as (E, Eb, D, C, A, G) instead just because it sounds so "close" to the blues scale... so pay close attention to details.
