    Chad Howell I absolutely LOVE my Selmer horns and I own a few of them.  I've got a Mk 6 alto and tenor, a Reference alto, and a series II alto.  My soprano is a series III.  The main horns right now are the Reference alto and the Series III soprano.  I'd like to get ...  moreI absolutely LOVE my Selmer horns and I own a few of them.  I've got a Mk 6 alto and tenor, a Reference alto, and a series II alto.  My soprano is a series III.  The main horns right now are the Reference alto and the Series III soprano.  I'd like to get a Reference Tenor soon.  I've played on a couple of them and they seem to be very responsive.  My main issue right now (a really common one for a lot of players) is to try and find one mouthpiece to do it all.  I've been playing on Beechler Diamond S6S mostly on alto, and will alternate between a Berg Vintage 110/1 SMS and a Beechler S6S on tenor.  Changing the reeds doesn't seem to help much with the sound.  Its very commercial sounding to me, and prefer something a little darker and fatter.  I just bought a Berg 85/1 M to try out on the alto.  I'm using either Vandoren Java Green 3's or Vandoren V16 3's for reeds and a Rovner MkIII ligature on the alto.  Maybe this setup will give me what I'm after...  less

      Christopher Mickel There are so many great pieces out there I would recommend just trying as man as you can. If you are looking for something "darker and fatter" then the Beechler and Berg mouthpieces are probably not what you want. Maybe checkout Otto Links, Vandoren V16's (hard rubber), and Barkley New York and Jazz Models just to name a few off the top of my head.
